Small Nun's Cross, Crucifix with Skull and Crossbones, Pectoral Crucifix

0.00

High quality small (2.5 inches approximately) Nun's Cross with beautiful ebony wood inlay .

Nuns crosses are in a symbol of the passion of Christ, and intended as  a visual reminder to mediate upon the Four Last Things - Death and Judgement, Heaven and Hell.

Emblazoned across the top is “INRI” in a scroll. Above Christ’s head is an intricately detailed halo. At His feet is the Skull and Crossbones that makes this a genuine " Nun's cross"
The skull and bones have many symbolic meanings. The skull is a reminder of human mortality. The skull and bones are placed beneath Jesus’ feet, to show triumph over death and sin for his followers.

This is an Italian cross and is about 2.5 inches in size. It has a nice weight to it and makes quite a visual impact. It dates back to the 1910's-20's  and is in antique used condition but beautiful with a lovely patina.
